Negative-Trivial: Coming out of an interrogation room and being praised for his good work in getting information out of the prisoner
What It Was: headcanon!*
This takes place while Itachi's in the ANBU so he's around twelve or so, and is on loan to the Konoha Intelligence Division to help them out with a particularly recalcitrant captive. He's in full ANBU gear and being referred to by his codename. He's also mentally torturing a captured spy via genjutsu. \:D/
Anyway, this memory is the tail end of that torture, after the spy (who's already in pretty bad shape from the physical torture he was subjected to) finally caves and agrees to talk. Itachi gets sent out of the room since his part in the interrogation is done, and his superior congratulates him on his good work.
What He Learned:
- Oh so I can use genjutsu other than Tsukuyomi to torture people. Awesome.
- In fact that was probably a regular part of what I did while in the ANBU. Even more awesome.
- I didn't actually enjoy putting this guy through hours and hours of torture. Even if it was for the good of Konoha.
- ...But I did it anyway. Because it was for the good of Konoha.
- :|bbbbb
Note: WHOOPS that makes three memories Itachi's behind on. I should probably offscreen one or two.
* While this is headcanon I think it's fairly reasonable to assume genjutsu was used as a method of torture whenever possible; if it's common enough to be used that way on a battlefield (as in Kakashi Gaiden) then it stands to reason that it would be in use during more controlled times. I think it's also fairly safe to assume that Itachi was already very good at genjutsu while he was younger, since he'd mastered the Sharingan at the age of like eight and, as a specialty, genjutsu seems like the sort of thing that requires years of work even if you are a fancy genius-pants.
