What It Was: mentioned Ch. 550
Chronologically I am setting this just before Itachi goes to seek out Naruto before his final showdown with Sasuke. What happens is:
Itachi is in a secluded location. After double checking that he's alone, he uses mumblemumble genjutsu to create a crow under the control of his Sharingan. He then opens up a series of storage seals in order to pull out a small jar full of fluid and, Mangekyou Sharingan activated, Shisui's eyeball.
He then implants Shisui's eye into the crow's left eye and uses his command over the crow to give it a delayed reaction command: if Naruto is ever faced with any iteration of Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan, the crow is supposed to emerge from Naruto and use the ultimate technique of Shisui's Mangekyou Sharingan on the user of Itachi's Mangekyou. With the eye and command in place, the crow gets sent away and Itachi carefully erases any trace of his presence of what he was doing there before going on his merry way.
What He Learned:
- How does I store objects into scrolls.
- Shisui's eye was extremely important and extremely precious, for reasons personal(?) and otherwise.
- Shisui had the Mangekyou Sharingan too, and its ultimate technique was called Koto-Amatsuki, an extremely powerful genjutsu. It's...basically Lelouch's geass, allowing the user to mind control the victim without the victim noticing. It has a very long waiting period between uses, which is why Itachi was so strict about the command he gave it through the crow in order to prevent it from getting set off too early.
--- He doesn't know all that crap about needing Senju chakra in order to use Koto-Amatsuki more than once a decade idk idk.
- The command he left the crow with: "Protect Konoha."
--- He doesn't know he intended to plant the crow in Naruto.
--- Or that the command was intended to be used on Sasuke should Sasuke end up under Madara's sway and seeking to obtain the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
- Very detailed knowledge of the anatomy of eyes both human and avian. :')
What He Gained:
- SO I SURE DID MUTILATE MY BEST FRIEND'S CORPSE AFTER I KILLED HIM!
- AND THEN CARRIED AROUND HIS DISEMBODIED EYEBALL IN A JAR FOR X NUMBER OF YEARS!
- AND THEN...TURNED IT INTO A FAILSAFE...TO MINDFUCK SOMEONE...INTO BEING LOYAL TO KONOHA?
